Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP)

The Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP) programme has been established by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and is implemented in partnership with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). FCDO has appointed a Project Management Agent (PMA) to manage programme delivery. The PMA comprises a consortium partnership between Pegasys and SouthSouthNorth (SSN).
SMEP Pakistan is a project to identify and invest in research and development activities that mitigate the harmful environmental and social impacts of pollution from the leather sector in Pakistan. This particular SMEP Project targets to foster transparency, cleaner production and circularity within the leather value chain along with generating evidence on technical feasibility and commercial viability.

Duties and Responsibilities

● Develop and implement robust research designs and methodologies tailored to the project’s objectives,
including formulating research questions and ensuring adherence to ethical standards.
● Oversee the collection, management, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, utilizing statistical software to ensure findings are reliable and valid, and prepare comprehensive reports summarizing research outcomes.
● Coordinate with project stakeholders, including team members, external partners, to ensure alignment of research activities with SMEP project goals and timelines while facilitating regular progress discussions.
● Prepare research publications, presentations, and policy briefs for dissemination to relevant audiences.
● Assist Project Manager in the documentation, technical evaluation, strategic development, implementation monitoring and coordination of activities related to the Project.
● Contribute in cross functional activities.
● Provide technical feedback on progress to the Project Manager and assist in all project related activities such as meetings, workshops, visits, reports, etc.
● Develop strategies to ensure project activities are completed on schedule and within the scope.
● Responsible for the implementation of quarterly and annual work plans for achieving planned results following WWF-Pakistan guidelines.
● Facilitate regular communication and collaboration among all project stakeholders.
● Represent WWF-Pakistan at relevant forums to highlight priority issues, create a favorable image of the organization, and promote its efforts and position on various conservation issues.
● Frequent field visits to carry out research, process and technical monitoring based on agreed TORs.
● Any other tasks assigned by the Project Manager.

Qualification and Experience

● Masters in Chemical/Chemistry/Environmental Engineering or relevant fields of engineering.
● Strong research background, scientific and research papers, and reports that effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
● Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, with a critical eye towards consistency and reproducibility in research findings.
● Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, fostering teamwork and building relationships across disciplines and with external partners.
